Sleep Disorders
Are You Sleep Deprived?
Now days the average adult sleeps 6.8 hours, which is about an hour and a half less than what we should be sleeping.
A lot of our sleeping problems can have to do with family problems, stress at your work place, and possible health problems.
We all can have problems sleeping from being a light sleeper, insomnia, to tossing and turning when you get in bed.
Light Sleeper:
For the light sleeper anything from a outside light shining in your bedroom window, to hearing a dog barking, or your partner snores wakes you up.
Try doing these things to see if this helps you.
Light Wakes You Up
Light waking you up, cover your window with a blanket.
If you have a computer in your room turn off the computer before you go to bed. Sometime even alarm clock light can wake up a light sleep, so just turn the alarm clock away from you.
Noise Wakes You Up
Use white noise machine, fan, or earplugs.
I found that using a fan year round works best it has a constant sound that seems to drown out all the noise from inside, and outside the home. If you have a partner that snores you may need to use earplugs, or you may need to sleep in a different room.
Insomnia
The first thing to do is talk to your doctor about your insomnia problem it could be from a health problem. Your doctor may give you a sleeping aid such as Ambien or Lunesta to help you sleep.
If perhaps your like me and don’t want to take sleeping aids for your insomnia try this.
Set a time that you, your partner, and kids agreed not to talk about or deal with problems. Inform family members please do not call after a set time. Some family members can cause stress on you talking about their problems. Yes I know we all have problems we must deal with, but set a time to deal with these problems.
Don’t watch a TV program or the news that is to intense before you go to bed.
Take A Bath
Taking a warm bath or shower just before you go to bed, don’t stay in to long, or make the water to hot.
Get A Massage
Ask you partner to give you a massage it’s a great way to relax your body. The next night you give your partner a massage that way each partner will benefit.
Don't Drink To Much Alcohol
This may seem like a quick fix and does causes drowsiness initially, it's decreasing levels of it in the blood can interrupt your sleep. Try instead herb tea certain teas such as catnip, anise or fennel tea contain natural ingredients which will help you sleep. Check at your local health store for more details.
Still Can't Fall Asleep
Get up out of bed, but don't turn on TV instead read a book in deem light. Also if it's 4 or 5 in the morning don't go ahead and start your day, you will pay for it later in the day.
One of the most common causes of insomnia is insomnia you have it in your head that you won’t fall asleep.
You need to tell yourself that you will fall asleep. I know that is real hard to do.
